Newport News - Day 4 (Settling into routines!)
Work continues. Not much to report today. We were up at 7am, had French toast for breakfast and then started working. With deadlines looming we needed to make sure we were online and chatting with co-workers. Thankfully the internet system that Bill installed worked great and could definitely keep up with the speeds that we needed to work.
We did manage a couple of short hikes again. It was important to get out, stretch our legs and breath some fresh air. While the windows are really great in the RV for viewing the immediate area, the monitor situation does take away full viewing opportunities.

RV life has some unique challenges. At this campground we did not have a full sewer hookup. That meant that we were limited to 30 gallons of Grey Water and 30 gallons of Black Water. For those as green as us... Black Water is sewage from your toilet. Grey Water is waste water from your shower, or sink or dishes. Trying to manage these so you don't have to dump can be a challenge. A normal shower might take 10-20 gallons in your house and 2-6 in an RV. Over a weekend it's not a big deal, but if you are going to stay longer, managing this is kind of important. Thankfully for us, the campsite had shower facilities close to us. So during the day, we'd go to them (which were as clean as any I've ever seen) for bathroom stops and use the RV for night time pit stops. Showers, were more complicated and we mitigated water use by turning it on to wet down and then off to soap up and back on for washing. Using this, we were able to make it all the way until we left to dump. Otherwise it would have been moving the trailer halfway through the week.
Our only venturing out in the car today was to find dinner. We decided to go to Second Street Bistro in Newport News. It wasn't bad but nothing special even though it was rated #1 on Tripadvisor. Bill was adventurous and tried the shrimp and grits dish. His review was that it was tasteless. I had the beef stroganoff which was quite good. The service wasn't very good. We definitely felt like were were an imposition on the waiter. Oh well it just motivated us to get home a little quicker to eat one or two of the choco chip cookies.

I'm not sure how you make a Cajun dish tasteless, but this place managed it. I think I'm going to make a new food rule. If it's upscale, it's probably rubbish. It needs to be quirky enough to have survived being quirky by having good food. Places that are 'trendy' seem to be able to survive despite having food that is as inspired as cardboard. Also... Tripadvisor is normally really good.
Back at The (not Bungalow, Bill) Bungalow, I pulled down the bed, cozied up and watched the Great British Baking Show and Bill set up his lounge area and relaxed. Night Night.
